Do You Take A Family Holiday In School Term Time?

As the price of a holiday soars during school holidays, are you joining the increasing number of families booking a family holiday during term time, even though you face a fine?
According to LV= research more parents are? taking children out of school during term time as they try to save money on the cost of their holiday.
Despite the fact that many people are struggling with their finances, most feel their holidays cannot be missed.
However, the cost of going away in the school holidays soars and as such many parents feel they cannot afford to go away then. Instead, to save money, they opt to take their children out during term time.
The following table shows the comparable term-time and non term-time holiday costs:
The difference in cost is staggering. Consequently, over 40% of parents say they are willing to incur a fine as the cost of the penalty is far outweighed by the money they save by holidaying off-peak.
As Selwyn Fernandes, managing director of LV= travel insurance, said ?It is not surprising that so many parents are willing to risk a fine of ?60 when they can save ten times that by holidaying outside of the peak season.
?If something goes wrong on holiday it can be very expensive to put right and it is important that families don?t scrimp on travel insurance and leave themselves at risk.?
Some 20% of parents have sought their school?s permission for a term-time holiday and been refused and 12% admit they have fibbed to take their children out of school for a holiday.
The most common excuses include pretending their child is sick, visiting ill relatives, a family wedding and a trip for educational purposes.
MoneyHighStreet comments: ?It?s outrageous to see the difference in the holiday costs. There is of course the economics of supply and demand hitting the price but are these costs really justified?
?Perhaps a ?staycation? may be the answer this year ? a holiday at home. Even with this though you need to be careful to plan ahead as entertaining the children can seriously add up. It doesn?t have to though as one of our team members found out when they had a very happy family day out for very little money ? and had a fabulous time with some good old fashioned style family fun on the beach.
?Of course you may want to head off for warmer waters. If you do, plan ahead and it can help you save money ? look out for holiday discount vouchers too, or special offers on such as sun cream or perhaps parking at the airport.?
